当劳拉的母亲拿起电话听筒的时候，她怎么也想不到，这是她最后一次听到汤米的声音。

劳拉一直觉得自己很幸福，因为她有一个很爱她的男朋友。每当她和汤米在手挽手走在黄昏的马路上，每当她们相拥之后互相告别，每当她听见汤米充满关怀和温柔的声音，她就觉得自己是世界上最快乐的女人。汤米总是对她说，他希望能给她一切：鲜花、礼物，还有她一直梦想的结婚钻戒。

 

微风吹动着贴在俱乐部门口的告示，其中一张上面写道：赛车比赛，冠军奖金1000元。汤米看了看表，马上就是他和劳拉约会的时间了，但是他看了看纸条上的1000元，抚了抚头发，下定了决心。他给劳拉家打了个电话，但是劳拉已经出门去赴和他的约会了。于是汤米对劳拉的母亲说：“请告诉劳拉我爱她，请告诉她我需要她劳拉，请告诉劳拉我今天可能会迟到，因为我有件很重要的事情要去做。。。”

 

汤米把自己的车开到了赛车场，他发现自己是全场最年轻的一位选手。信号灯的熄灭比赛开始，他们以近乎疯狂的速度在赛道上疾驰。随着一声声惊呼和一股升腾的浓烟，汤米的车在火焰中翻滚着。当人们把他从扭曲变形的车身里拉出来时，他已经奄奄一息了。在弥留之际，人们听见汤米喃喃地说：“告诉劳拉我爱她，告诉劳拉我需要她，告诉劳拉不要哭，告诉她我对她的爱永远都没有死。。。”

 

几天之后的教堂里，劳拉在为她的汤米祈祷，那个只为她生，也只为她死的男孩。在宁静的教堂里，她仿佛又听见汤米那温柔又悲伤的声音：“告诉劳拉我爱她，告诉劳拉我需要她，告诉劳拉不要哭，告诉她我对她的爱永远都没有死。。。”
